Financial consolidation software for groups with several companies

Financial consolidation software turns the books of several companies into one set of group accounts. Finconsol brings each company in, maps its accounts to one group chart, translates currencies, removes intercompany balances and shows the group statements. Zoho Books connects directly. Other systems join by trial balance.

Map once

Each company keeps its own account names. You tie them to the group's lines one time.

Revenue accounts from five companies are mapped to the group line Revenue. A new account in Zenvara UK Ltd, Consulting income, is not mapped yet, and a button maps it to Revenue.

Every company closes. The group does not.

A group with three, five or fifteen companies usually has three, five or fifteen sets of books. Each is correct for its own company. The board wants one set of numbers for the whole group, and nobody owns the work between the two.

So after every month end, someone in finance spends days exporting, re-keying and checking, and the group accounts are late by the time they are read.

  • Different charts. Each company names and numbers its accounts its own way.
  • Different currencies. Each foreign company needs the right rate for each part of its statements.
  • Intercompany counted twice. Fees, loans and investments between companies inflate revenue, costs and assets.
  • Part-owned companies. The share that belongs to outside owners has to be shown separately.
  • No trail. Nobody can say who changed a number after the board read it.

How groups do it today

Most groups rebuild the consolidation every month in a spreadsheet, or move every company onto one accounting system. Both work until the group grows.

How Finconsol consolidates a group

  1. Bring the books in

Zoho Books organizations connect directly, read-only, and refresh every night. Companies on Xero, QuickBooks or any other system upload a monthly trial balance, and every row is checked before it is used. See integrations, including Zoho Books, Xero and QuickBooks.

  2. Map once

Each company's accounts are mapped to one group chart. After that the mapping holds. A new account that is not mapped stops that month and is named, so nothing drops out silently.

  3. Translate

Each foreign company is translated into the group's currency: closing rate for the balance sheet, average rate for profit and loss, historical rates for equity. The translation reserve makes the balance sheet balance. See multi-currency consolidation.

  4. Eliminate and adjust

Balances between companies are compared pair by pair and eliminated, and group adjustments are entered as journals in Finconsol. Part-owned companies carry their minority interest. See intercompany eliminations.

  5. Report and lock

The group statements, worksheet and trial balance are ready for any month, quarter or year. When they are final, the month is locked. See group reporting and close controls.

The consolidation worksheet, column by column

Zenvara Group, September 2026, USD thousands

A consolidation worksheet for the Zenvara Group with a column for each of the five companies, a column for eliminations and a group column. Revenue of 6,376 across the companies less 420 of intercompany fees gives group revenue of 5,956. Costs of 5,360 less the same 420 give 4,940. Net profit of 1,016 is unchanged by the elimination and ties to the statements.

Ties to the statements

What you get

  • Group statements: balance sheet, profit and loss, cash flow (indirect method, reconciled to cash) and fund flow, each with its own balance check.
  • A consolidation worksheet with a column per company, the adjustment columns and the group column, tied to the statements.
  • A group trial balance on one chart of accounts.
  • Comparisons against the previous period and the same period last year.
  • Budget against actual, dashboards, your own report layouts and board packs.
  • Export of whatever is on screen to Excel and PDF.

The work around the statements is covered too: intercompany comparisons, statistical accounts such as headcount next to the numbers, and a close screen that shows what stops a month from being finished.

If your group is still on a spreadsheet, this comparison shows what changes. For an overview of the process itself, see the guide to consolidating financial statements.

Consolidation worksheet, a four-company manufacturing group, September 2026

Good to know

  • Zoho Books is the one direct connection today. Xero and QuickBooks join by trial balance upload, with direct connections coming soon.
  • For companies that join by trial balance, figures are at account level. Drilling down to the individual transaction works for Zoho Books companies.
  • Finconsol reads your books and never writes to them. Eliminations and adjustments live in Finconsol.
  • The group reports in one currency, chosen when the group is set up.

Questions

What is financial consolidation software?
It combines the books of several companies into one set of group accounts. It maps each company's accounts to a common chart, translates foreign currencies, removes what the companies owe each other, and produces the group balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow.
What does consolidation software do that a spreadsheet cannot?
A spreadsheet can do the arithmetic, but it does not stop you when something changes. Finconsol stops a month when an account is unmapped, keeps intercompany balances on a list until they are resolved, keeps adjustments in Finconsol apart from the companies' books, locks finished months and records every change.
Which accounting systems does it work with?
Zoho Books connects directly, read-only, and refreshes every night. Xero, QuickBooks, Excel and any system that can export a trial balance join by monthly upload. Xero and QuickBooks direct connections are coming soon. One group can mix all of these.
Is it suitable for a small business with a few companies?
Yes. A group of two or three companies has the same problems as a larger one: different charts, different currencies and intercompany balances counted twice. Pricing depends on the number of companies and users, and most groups are live in a day.
How does it handle intercompany eliminations?
Every month Finconsol compares what each company holds against the other, pair by pair. The smaller side is eliminated by default, in an entry in Finconsol, apart from the companies' books. Anything not eliminated stays in the statements and on the list until it is resolved.
Do we need consolidation software if every company uses one currency?
Often yes. The intercompany balances, the different charts of accounts and the part-owned companies still need handling every month. Translation is only one of the steps, and a group with a single currency simply has nothing to translate.
How long does it take to set up?
Most groups are live in a day: connect or upload each company, map its accounts once, and see the first group accounts the same day. Past months can be loaded once so comparisons work from the start.
Does it replace our accounting software?
No. Each company keeps its own books in the system it already uses. Finconsol reads them and builds the group on top. Nothing is written back to Zoho Books or any other system.
