Manufacturing group reporting and consolidation across plants
A manufacturing group with plants in several companies needs cost per unit, machine utilisation and on-time delivery for the whole group. The accounts hold the cost; the units, hours and orders live outside them. Finconsol consolidates the companies and keeps those figures beside the accounts, so one report covers both.

INR per unitCost per unit needs two sets of numbers, and they are kept apart
Plants in a manufacturing group are often separate companies: a machining company, an assembly company, a trading arm abroad. Each closes its books properly. The managing director still asks what a unit costs across the group, how much of the machine capacity was used, and whether scrap is rising at one plant.
The accounts answer only half of each question. Units produced, machine hours and dispatches sit in the production system, a plant sheet or the planner's file.
- Cost without units. Group cost is known only after the companies are added together, and the units are in a different file.
- Capacity in plant files. Machine hours available and used are kept by each plant in its own layout.
- Delivery in another system. Orders delivered and orders delivered on time come from dispatch, not from the ledger.
- Plants selling to plants. A casting plant that sells to the assembly plant adds revenue and cost to both sides until the sale is removed, which also distorts cost and revenue per unit.
How groups do it today, and where it breaks
Most groups rebuild a monthly plant comparison in a spreadsheet: group cost pasted in from one file, units from another, hours from a third.
| Question | How it is answered today | Where it breaks | In Finconsol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost per unit | Group cost in one file divided by units in another | Sales between plants are still inside the cost; the sums are re-keyed every month | Group cost after eliminations, divided by units produced held as a statistic line |
| Machine utilisation | Each plant sends its hours | A late plant goes unnoticed and the group figure is wrong | Hours available and used per company and month; Data Health shows who has sent |
| On-time delivery | A dispatch report per plant | No group figure, and no link to the margin | Orders delivered and delivered on time, totalled for the group |
| Stock days | Worked out from the balance sheet by hand | Different plants, different layouts | One balance sheet layout with stock, for every company |
How Finconsol handles a manufacturing group
Bring in each plant's company
Zoho Books organizations connect directly and refresh every night. Companies on Xero, QuickBooks or any other system upload a trial balance each month.
Consolidate
Accounts are mapped once to one group chart, each company is translated into the group currency, and sales and balances between the plants are compared and eliminated.
Add the plant figures
Units, machine hours, orders and floor area go in as statistic lines: typed into a grid, uploaded, or sent automatically from the plant's own system.
Switch on the manufacturing pack
The statistic lines, dashboards and report layouts below are created for you, ready to adjust.
Read it by plant and for the group
Open any group figure down to the company and the account behind it, and compare the plants side by side.
What the manufacturing pack adds
The pack is a starting point. You can change any line, dashboard or layout, add your own, or remove all of it.
| Statistic lines (10) | Lines |
|---|---|
| Output | Units produced, units sold, scrap units |
| Capacity | Machine hours available, machine hours used, labour hours worked |
| Delivery | Orders delivered, orders delivered on time |
| People and space | Headcount, floor area |
| Dashboards (7) | For the question |
|---|---|
| Executive overview | Where is the group this month? |
| Production and capacity | How much did we make, and how much machine time did we use? |
| Quality and delivery | Scrap and orders on time |
| People and productivity | Headcount and output per employee |
| Cost and margin | Cost and revenue per unit |
| Plants compared | Which company is ahead, which is behind? |
| Trends and growth | How the figures have moved over time |
KPIs
Units produced and sold, machine utilisation, scrap, on-time delivery, cost and revenue per unit, stock days and output per employee.
Two draft report layouts
- P&L per unit: the profit and loss with its lines shown per unit.
- Balance sheet with stock: a balance sheet laid out around stock.
What you get
- Group statements: balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow for any month, quarter or year, with comparisons, tied to a consolidation worksheet that has a column per plant company.
- Plant KPIs beside the financials: cost per unit, utilisation, scrap and on-time delivery, for each company and for the group.
- Budget against actual for each plant company and for the group.
- Board packs with the group's KPIs, refreshed with the month and locked.
Good to know
- Finconsol does not read from your production system. The plant figures arrive by grid, upload or the key your system uses to send them.
- While a month is in progress, each new figure replaces the previous one for that month. The figure freezes when the month is closed.
- Statistics sit beside the accounts. They are not journal entries and do not change any balance.
- The group reports in one currency. Xero and QuickBooks companies join by trial balance upload today, with direct connections coming soon.
