Retail group reporting and consolidation across stores and companies
A retail group with stores spread across several companies wants sales per square foot, per store and per employee, plus conversion and basket size, for the whole chain. The accounts hold sales and margin; stores, footfall and floor area live in other files. Finconsol consolidates the companies and holds those figures beside the accounts.

Companies compared, sales per square foot
INR, Apr 2026 to Sep 2026Sales are in the books. Stores, footfall and space are not.
A store chain is rarely one company. There is a company per region or format, an online arm and a buying company that supplies the rest. Each keeps its books. The merchandise director still asks which stores earn their space, whether more people walking in is turning into more sales, and whether the basket is growing.
The ledger has the sales. The store count, floor area, footfall and transactions are kept somewhere else.
- A moving store count. Stores open and close during the year, so sales per store needs the count for each month, not for the year end.
- Space and footfall elsewhere. Floor area sits in property records and footfall in the door counters.
- Stock moved between companies. When the buying company sells to the store companies, group sales and cost of sales are both inflated until the sale is removed.
- Online and stores mixed. Online transactions are counted by a different system from till transactions.
How groups do it today, and where it breaks
Most retail finance teams keep a store productivity workbook that is rebuilt each month from the accounts and four other sources.
| Question | How it is answered today | Where it breaks | In Finconsol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales per square foot | Sales from the accounts, space from a property list | Group sales still include sales between your companies; the list is out of date after each opening | Sales after eliminations, over a floor area line for each company and month |
| Conversion | Transactions divided by footfall in a separate file | One company's counts arrive late, and the group figure is wrong without anyone seeing it | Footfall and transactions per company and month; Data Health shows who has sent |
| Average basket | Sales divided by till transactions | Online transactions are not included, or are included twice | Transactions and online transactions kept as separate lines |
| Stock days | Worked out by hand from the balance sheet | No view across the companies | Stock days as a KPI, for each company and for the group |
How Finconsol handles a retail group
Bring in every company's books
Zoho Books organizations connect directly and refresh every night. Companies on Xero, QuickBooks or any other system upload a trial balance each month.
Consolidate
Accounts are mapped once to one group chart, each company is translated into the group currency, and sales and balances between your companies are eliminated.
Add the store figures
Stores, floor area, footfall and transactions go in as statistic lines: a grid, a file upload, or sent automatically from your store systems.
Switch on the retail pack
The statistic lines, dashboards and report layouts below are created for you.
Compare the companies
Read sales per store, per square foot and per employee side by side, then open any figure down to the account behind it.
What the retail pack adds
The pack is a starting point. You can change any line, dashboard or layout, add your own, or remove all of it.
| Statistic lines (10) | Lines |
|---|---|
| Store network | Stores, stores opened, stores closed, floor area |
| Customers | Footfall, transactions, online transactions |
| Items | Items sold, items returned |
| People | Headcount |
| Dashboards (7) | For the question |
|---|---|
| Executive overview | Where is the chain this month? |
| Store productivity | What does each store and each square foot earn? |
| Customers and basket | Footfall, conversion and basket size |
| People | Headcount and sales per employee |
| Margin and stock | Gross margin and stock days |
| Companies compared | Which company is ahead, which is behind? |

KPIs
Footfall, conversion, average basket, sales per square foot, per store and per employee, gross margin and stock days.
Two draft report layouts
- P&L with sales per square foot: the profit and loss with that ratio beside the sales line.
- P&L with sales per store and basket: the profit and loss with sales per store and the average basket.
What you get
- Group statements: balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow for any month, quarter or year, with comparisons, tied to a consolidation worksheet that has a column per company.
- Store KPIs beside the financials: sales per square foot, per store and per employee, for each company and for the group.
- Budget against actual for each company and for the group.
- Board packs with the group's KPIs, refreshed with the month and locked.
Good to know
- Finconsol does not read from your till or door-counter systems. The figures arrive by grid, upload or the key your system uses to send them.
- While a month is in progress, each new figure replaces the previous one for that month. The figure freezes when the month is closed.
- Statistics sit beside the accounts. They are not journal entries and do not change any balance.
- The group reports in one currency. Xero and QuickBooks companies join by trial balance upload today, with direct connections coming soon.
