Zoho Analytics for group reports: when it is enough and where it stops
Zoho publishes a way to combine several Zoho Books organizations in Zoho Analytics. What it does, where the rates and eliminations come from, and when a group can stop there.

In short
Zoho Analytics can pull several Zoho Books organizations into one workspace, and for a group that reports in one currency with no intercompany it is often enough. It stops being enough when exchange rates are typed by hand, balances between companies must be eliminated, or a subsidiary has outside owners.
Key takeaways
- Analytics is a reporting tool, not a consolidation tool. It will show what you build; it does not know what a group needs.
- Zoho’s own example types the rates by hand. A rate typed once and never changed moves every figure it touches.
- Zoho’s example does not mention eliminations, a translation reserve or a non-controlling interest. A group has to add them.
- Enough for a management view of simple groups. Not enough for accounts that go to a lender, an investor or an auditor.
Checked against Zoho’s help centre on 29 Oct 2026. Plan and article details below are as Zoho published them on that day.
What does Zoho say you can build with Zoho Analytics?
Zoho publishes two walk-throughs for a group on several Zoho Books organizations. The first is a partner-support article titled “Multi-currency financial reports from multiple Zoho Books organizations in Zoho Analytics”1. The second is a community post, a “Solution of the Week”, on a consolidated balance sheet for organizations with different base currencies2.
The partner article works in five steps. An administrator imports the first organization into a new Analytics workspace, then imports the other organizations into the same workspace. The currency symbols are removed from the transaction columns. Query tables then combine the organizations with UNION ALL and apply a rate to each amount. Lookups can be added so the result can be reported on.
The community post follows the same idea with a separate currency table that holds the conversion rates, and two query tables that combine the accounts and the accrual transactions of every organization. Neither page carries a stated limitation, and the community post shows no date.
Zoho’s plan comparison lists a Zoho Analytics integration on all six Zoho Books plans. It lists the “advanced analytics” rows, such as pre-built visualisations and tracking KPIs, on the Ultimate plan only3.
What does that build produce for a group of four companies?
Take September 2026 revenue for four members of the example group: Zenvara (Zoho Books, GBP), Fernhollow (USD), Palmridge (AED) and Quillfern (Zoho Books, EUR). Suppose the person who built the workspace typed the closing ratesClosing rateThe spot exchange rate on the last day of the reporting period, used to translate a foreign subsidiary's assets and liabilities.Open the glossary entry of 31 August into the rate table, as the build was finished in early September. Nothing refreshes them. The workspace then says this.
| ZenvaraGBP 625,000, no conversion | 625,000 |
| FernhollowUSD 460,000 at 0.7500, the 31 August closing rate | 345,000 |
| PalmridgeAED 4,800,000 at 0.2010, the 31 August closing rate | 964,800 |
| QuillfernEUR 700,000 at 0.8420, the 31 August closing rate | 589,400 |
| Revenue the workspace shows | 2,524,200 |
| Rate correction to the September average ratesUSD 0.7540, AED 0.2025, EUR 0.8450: 1,840 + 7,200 + 2,100 | 11,140 |
| Revenue before eliminations at the group rates | 2,535,340 |
| Less Zenvara’s services to PalmridgeAED 400,000 at 0.2025 | (81,000) |
| Group revenue | 2,454,340 |
Example group used across Finconsol guides. Figures rounded to the pound. The rates typed in the workspace are an illustration of a table not updated, not a statement of what any user typed.
Two things differ from the group accounts. The rates are a month old, which is worth GBP 11,140 on revenue alone. And the workspace adds up four companies, so Zenvara’s AED 400,000 of services to Palmridge counts as group revenue although it never left the group. Removing it takes GBP 81,000 off. Neither adjustment is hard. Each has to be remembered every month.
Free: Zoho Books group set-up checklist
This free Excel checklist covers the decisions and steps for running a group of companies on Zoho Books: organizations, locations and reporting tags, base currencies, the exchange rate source, intercompany accounts, transaction locking, user roles and how the group is combined. Each step links to the Zoho help page that covers it, with an owner, a status and a done percentage.
- Thirty-two decisions and steps in eight areas, from structure to group reporting.
- The Zoho help page for each step, with its link, checked on 29 October 2026.
When is Zoho Analytics enough for group reports?
It is enough when the group is simple and the report stays inside the building. In practice that means most of these are true:
- One or two currencies are involved and someone owns the rate table.
- Sales and balances between the companies are small enough to ignore.
- Every company is wholly owned.
- The numbers are for the leadership team, not for a bank, an investor or an auditor.
- The person who writes the queries stays long enough to maintain them.
Then a workspace gives you something a spreadsheet does not: the figures come from the books, not from a paste. That is a fair reason to build it.
Where does a query-based build stop?
These are not flaws in Zoho Analytics. They are parts of group accounting that Zoho’s article does not describe, so someone has to build them.
- Rates. The partner article states that the currency rates used in the query are entered by hand1. Its sample converts three currencies and returns nothing for any other. A group needs an average rate for profit and loss and a closing rate for the balance sheet4, so a single multiplier per currency is not enough.
- Eliminations. The article does not mention intercompany balances or sales. Without an elimination, group revenue, receivables and payables are all overstated, as Exhibit 1 shows. See intercompany eliminations explained.
- The translation reserve. When a subsidiary is translated at two rates, the difference lands in equity. The article does not describe it. See currency translation in consolidation.
- Outside owners. Kestrelwick is 80% owned. A group with a partly owned subsidiary needs a non-controlling interestNon-controlling interestThe share of a subsidiary's equity and profit that belongs to owners outside the group.Open the glossary entry line, and the article does not mention one.
- Companies that are not on Zoho Books. The build imports Zoho Books organizations. Fernhollow’s books are in QuickBooks and Kestrelwick’s in Xero in this group, so their figures would have to come in some other way.
- Control. A query that anyone with access can change, with rates that nobody dates, leaves no record of what the board saw in March.
Each item can be added by someone willing to build and test it. Ask who will maintain it in two years, and who reviews it each month.
How do you decide between the two?
| Analytics build | Consolidation tool | |
|---|---|---|
| Combines Zoho Books organizations | Yes, by import and query | Yes |
| Exchange rates | Entered by hand in the query | Held per month, average and closing |
| Intercompany eliminations | Not mentioned in Zoho’s article | Compared and eliminated |
| Translation reserve, non-controlling interest | Not mentioned in Zoho’s article | Calculated |
| Companies on Xero, QuickBooks or other systems | The article imports Zoho Books | By trial balance |
| Maintained by | Whoever wrote the queries | The product |
If several of these rows matter to you, the build is the harder route. If none do, build it, and keep it simple.
How does Finconsol handle this?
Finconsol connects to Zoho Books directly, read only, with a nightly refresh. Zenvara and Quillfern come in that way. Fernhollow (QuickBooks) and Kestrelwick (Xero) come in by trial balanceTrial balanceA list of every account balance at a date, with total debits equal to total credits. It is the starting point for consolidating a company's figures.Open the glossary entry upload today, with direct connections for both coming soon, and any other system can come in by trial balance.
Each company is mapped once to the group chart of accounts. Rates are held for each month, an average for profit and loss and a closing rate for the balance sheet, so one set applies to every company. Intercompany balances are compared and eliminated, and the translation reserve and the non-controlling interest are worked out for you.
| Company | Local | Rate | GBP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zenvara | GBP 625,000 | 1.0000 | 625,000 |
| Fernhollow | USD 460,000 | 0.7540 | 346,840 |
| Palmridge | AED 4,800,000 | 0.2025 | 972,000 |
| Quillfern | EUR 700,000 | 0.8450 | 591,500 |
| Eliminated: Zenvara to Palmridge | AED 400,000 | 0.2025 | (81,000) |
| Group revenue | 2,454,340 |
The group accounts need the same checks whichever route you take. The month-end close checklist lists them; the Zoho Books group set-up checklist covers the set-up. For the wider picture of Zoho Books for a group, start with the complete guide.
Questions
Can Zoho Analytics consolidate Zoho Books organizations?
Zoho publishes a walk-through that imports several Zoho Books organizations into one Analytics workspace and combines them with queries. The article describes combining and converting currencies. It does not mention eliminations, a translation reserve or a non-controlling interest, so those would be additions you build.
Does Zoho Analytics convert currencies automatically?
In Zoho’s partner article the rates are typed into the query and the article says they are entered manually. Its sample converts three currencies. Checked 29 Oct 2026; a newer feature may exist, so check Zoho’s current Analytics help before relying on this.
Which Zoho Books plan includes Zoho Analytics?
Zoho’s plan comparison, opened 29 Oct 2026, lists a Zoho Analytics integration on all six plans, and its advanced analytics rows on Ultimate only. Plans change often, so check the page on the day you decide.
