## In short

Zoho Books runs each company as its own organization, with its own books, currency and subscription. The help pages we opened describe no report that combines organizations, so the group view comes from a separate step: a spreadsheet, Zoho Analytics or consolidation software. This guide sets out what Zoho says and what a group does next.

Key takeaways

- **One company, one organization.** That is how Zoho Books is built, and it keeps each company's books clean.
- **The group view is a separate job.** Zoho's help pages describe no report that combines organizations.
- **Four jobs sit between the organizations and the group accounts:** a shared chart, translation, eliminations and ownership.
- **Zoho Analytics, Zoho ERP and consolidation software** each solve part of it. Know what each one leaves for you to do by hand.

*Checked against Zoho's help centre on 29 Oct 2026. Every Zoho page used here is listed under Sources.*

## What does Zoho Books give a group of companies?

Zoho Books is built around the organization. Zoho's help centre says you can create and manage multiple organizations[1](#src-1), and that by default one email address can create up to five[2](#src-2). You open the organization name at the top right, choose Manage, and either start a new organization or clone an existing one[1](#src-1).

Each new organization gets a 14-day trial of the Premium plan. After the trial, Zoho's page says you subscribe to a plan separately for it[1](#src-1), or switch to the free plan[2](#src-2). In practice that means a group with five Zoho Books companies has five sets of books, five subscriptions and five charts of accounts.

That is a sound design for the company. Each organization closes its own month, keeps its own base currency and answers to its own auditor. The questions start when the board asks about the group.

## Does Zoho Books combine organizations into one report?

The pages we opened do not describe one. The help article on managing multiple organizations mentions no consolidated or combined view[1](#src-1). The plan comparison page has no row for organizations, consolidation or multi-entity features[3](#src-3). We also read the pages for the neighbouring features, listed below, and none of them describes a combined report either.

Three things are easy to confuse with one:

- **Networking.** Zoho Books has a feature that lets linked organizations push invoices, purchase orders, payments and credit notes to each other. Zoho's page says it is in early access and that it covers transactions only, nothing else crosses between the two organizations[4](#src-4). It moves documents. It does not report on the group.
- **Zoho Analytics.** Zoho's partner-support library has an article that imports several Zoho Books organizations into one Analytics workspace and combines them with queries[5](#src-5). It is a reporting build, and we describe its limits below.
- **Zoho ERP.** This is a different product. Its multi-company help pages describe intercompany transactions and an elimination subsidiary where elimination entries are recorded[6](#src-6). Nothing in it tells you what Zoho Books does.

So the careful statement is narrow: Zoho Books, as documented on the pages we checked, has no report that combines organizations. It is not true that Zoho has no consolidation, because another Zoho product does.

## What does a group need that no single organization gives?

Four jobs sit between a set of organizations and one set of group accounts. Each is routine, and each is where a spreadsheet starts to hurt.

- **One chart.** Each company names and numbers accounts its own way. The group needs every account mapped to a [group chart of accounts](/blog/glossary/group-chart-of-accounts/) once, and kept mapped as accounts are added.
- **One currency.** A subsidiary reporting in euros has to be translated into the group's [presentation currency](/blog/glossary/presentation-currency/): assets and liabilities at the [closing rate](/blog/glossary/closing-rate/), income and expenses at the [average rate](/blog/glossary/average-rate/), with the difference held in the [translation reserve](/blog/glossary/translation-reserve/)[7](#src-7).
- **No double counting.** What group companies charge each other must be removed from the group accounts in full[8](#src-8). See [elimination entries](/blog/glossary/elimination-entry/).
- **Ownership.** A subsidiary the group owns 80 percent of still has its income and net assets included in full, and the outside shareholders' 20 percent is shown separately as [non-controlling interest](/blog/glossary/non-controlling-interest/).

Here is the smallest version. Zenvara Group Ltd, the parent in the United Kingdom, keeps its books in Zoho Books in pounds. Quillfern GmbH, its German subsidiary, also uses Zoho Books and reports in euros. For this example, assume Zenvara charged Quillfern a management fee of EUR 50,000 in September 2026, which both companies booked. The fee is an illustration for this guide and is not part of the group's five-company September figures. Group revenue for these two companies is not the sum of two reports.

*Exhibit 1. Revenue of two Zoho Books organizations, Sep 2026GBP*

| Zenvara revenue, Zoho BooksAs booked, in pounds | 625,000 |
| --- | --- |
| Quillfern revenue, Zoho BooksEUR 700,000 at the average rate of 0.8450 | 591,500 |
| Revenue before eliminations | 1,216,500 |
| Less management fee, Zenvara to QuillfernEUR 50,000 at 0.8450, in Zenvara's revenue and Quillfern's costs | (42,250) |
| Revenue of the two Zoho Books companiesAfter elimination | 1,174,250 |

Example group used across Finconsol guides. Two of the group's five companies shown. The management fee is an illustration. Figures rounded to the pound.

Each organization produces its own figure correctly. The group figure needs a rate, a mapping and an elimination that none of the organizations holds. The post on whether Zoho Books can consolidate several companies shows what goes wrong when the two reports are simply added.

## How should you structure the companies in Zoho Books?

Structure comes before reporting. Zoho Books offers three ways to separate parts of a business: separate organizations, Locations inside one organization, and reporting tags. Zoho's help describes Locations as a hierarchy of up to five levels, and warns that once Locations is enabled it cannot be disabled[9](#src-9). Reporting tags let you filter reports, such as the profit and loss, by tag[10](#src-10).

The simple rule is that a legal entity gets its own organization, because it has its own books, its own base currency and its own tax and audit trail. Locations and tags suit divisions and sites inside one company. The dedicated post on organizations, locations and tags gives a decision table and a short tool.

## How do intercompany, currency and budgets work across organizations?

**Intercompany.** Between two Zoho Books organizations the options on Zoho's pages are Networking (early access, transactions only)[4](#src-4) and manual export and import. Zoho's knowledge base states that data cannot be transferred automatically between two organizations and that you can export from one and import into the other[11](#src-11). Neither compares the two sides or eliminates anything. The group needs a monthly comparison by counterparty, which [intercompany reconciliation](/blog/glossary/intercompany-reconciliation/) covers, and a guide to [intercompany eliminations](https://finconsol.com/guides/intercompany-eliminations-explained/).

**Currency.** Each organization has a base currency, and Zoho's Currency Adjustments tool revalues open foreign-currency transactions within an organization[12](#src-12). The page does not address showing a report in another currency. Translating a subsidiary into the group currency is therefore a group-level step. Our [guide to currency translation](https://finconsol.com/guides/currency-translation-in-consolidation/) explains it.

**Budgets.** A Zoho Books budget is set up in Accountant, Budgets, for a fiscal year and chosen accounts, and can be created for a specific reporting tag. The Budget vs Actuals view compares it with profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow[13](#src-13). The page says nothing about currency or about budgets across several organizations, so a group budget is not something it describes.

**Closing the month.** Zoho lets you lock Sales, Purchases, Banking and Accounts separately, or all at once, with a reason[14](#src-14). The page describes no lock across organizations. A group that wants the same month locked everywhere has to do it company by company and keep its own record.

## What are the options for the group view?

There are four routes, and the right one depends on size, not loyalty to a tool.

| Route | What it does well | What you still do by hand |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Spreadsheet | Cheap, familiar, fully flexible | Rates, mapping, eliminations, ownership, version control and the audit trail |
| Zoho Analytics5 | Combines several organizations in one workspace and reports on them | Rates are typed into the query, and the sample article does not mention eliminations or ownership |
| Zoho ERP6 | A different product with multi-company management and an elimination subsidiary | A move away from Zoho Books for every company, with its own implementation |
| Consolidation software | Maps, translates, eliminates and reports for the whole group | Reviewing the output each month and posting the judgement entries |

*Four routes to a group view, compared on 29 Oct 2026*

The Analytics article is worth reading before you decide. It says its currency rates "are manually entered", and its sample converts only three currencies[5](#src-5). That is a fair starting point for a two-company group with one foreign currency. It becomes work once there are five companies, four currencies and a rate to update every month.

Groups that outgrow it usually say the same thing: the problem is not the first month, it is the sixth. By then a company has added accounts, a rate has been mistyped and no one remembers why an elimination was posted. The post on [consolidating different accounting systems](/blog/consolidating-different-accounting-systems/) covers the mapping side, and the [five-day group close](/blog/five-day-group-close/) shows where the hours go.

## What should a Zoho Books group do in its first month?

1. **List the companies, the base currency and the owner of each.** Include the ownership percentage, since it drives non-controlling interest.
2. **Pick the group currency and the rate source.** One closing and one average rate per currency per month, published before month-end.
3. **Agree the cut-off.** The same calendar date for every organization, with a rule for invoices raised on the last day.
4. **Name the intercompany pairs.** Set each group company up as a customer and as a vendor in the others, so balances can be read by counterparty.
5. **Draw the group chart.** Map each organization's accounts to it once, and decide who approves a new account.
6. **Run one month by hand.** You will learn which step takes the time before you choose a tool.

The free checklist linked on this page puts these steps in a form you can send to each company's accountant.

## Where does Finconsol fit?

Finconsol takes the step after the organizations. It connects to Zoho Books directly, read only, and refreshes every night. It reads each organization as it is and never writes back to it. On top of that it handles the group-level jobs from Exhibit 1: mapping to one group chart, translating each company, comparing and eliminating intercompany balances, and showing non-controlling interest.

Not every company in a group keeps its books in Zoho Books. Xero and QuickBooks companies come in by trial balance upload today, and a direct connection for both is coming soon. Any other system comes in by trial balance too, so a group with a Zoho Books parent and an overseas subsidiary on something else still gets one set of accounts.

Around that sit statistics and KPIs next to the money, budgets and latest estimates, board packs, locked months with a change log, and one login for accounting firms that look after several client groups. The product page for [Zoho Books consolidation](https://finconsol.com/zoho-books-consolidation/) shows the screens, and the series this guide opens goes through each topic with worked figures.

## Questions

**Can Zoho Books consolidate multiple companies?**

The help pages we opened describe no report that combines organizations, so each company is reported on its own. A group builds the combined view in a spreadsheet, in Zoho Analytics or with consolidation software. Zoho ERP, a different product, has multi-company management with consolidated reports and an elimination subsidiary.

**How many companies can you run in Zoho Books?**

By default one email address can create up to five organizations, according to Zoho's help centre. Whether the limit can be raised is not stated on the pages we opened. Each organization has its own trial and its own plan.

**Do you pay for each Zoho Books organization?**

Zoho's page says that after the 14-day trial you subscribe to a plan separately for each new organization, and the pricing pages quote a price per organization. The free plan is an alternative after the trial.

**Is a group view the same as adding the reports together?**

No. Adding reports mixes currencies, counts intercompany fees twice and ignores outside shareholders. Exhibit 1 shows a gap of 42,250 from the management fee alone, before any currency problem is considered.
